Journal Through the Bible: Week 56 Friday

source
Isaiah 3:1-4:6

Does God issue any commands?

  • God told Isaiah in his vision to tell the righteous man that it would be well with him in the time of trouble. They would eat the fruit of their doings.

Does God make any promises?

  • God would take away bread, water, and His staff from Judah (as in the shepherd's staff). He would also take away the leaders and give them babes to rule over them because their doings were against the LORD.
  • The righteous would be well in the time of trouble.
  • The women would be cursed with scabs on their head and would be humbled because they were not discreet and pure. Their fine clothes and beauty aids would be taken from them.
  • Multiple women would take hold of a man and ask him to take away their reproach. The women promised to provide for themselves.
  • God promised the return of His presence and glory upon Zion in the cloud by day and the fire by night.

Does this passage teach anything about Jesus?

  • Jesus is the branch of the LORD. (4:2)

Does this passage teach anything about yet-future events?

  • In chapter 3, the righteous and the wicked are both given the fruit of their works as their reward. It shall be done the same way in future judgment.
  • God made special provision for the righteous in the time of trouble. He will do the same for His own in future tribulation. It did not mean that the righteous do not experience problems but God does take care of them during those times.
  • Chapter 4 seems to have a double fulfillment: the return of the captives after the 70 years in Babylon, and the time of Jesus' Kingdom when the filth of this world has been washed away. Then the glory of the LORD will be present in the cloud by day and the flaming fire by night just as it was when He led Israel out of Egypt.

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
