TAKE TIME: November 4-9 Reading Schedule

Introduction: After David's graphic sins God announced that the sword would not leave David's house. This is just as scripture describes death being the wages received for sin. This week we will read of the wages that David collected.

 Assignment:

Memory Verse

Prayer Journal (ACTS)

• Adoration - This week take time each day to praise God for providing redemption for transgressors.
• Confession - Ask God to reveal hidden sin in your life and then confess it.
• Thanksgiving - Thank God for any answers to your prayers.
• Supplication - What are your prayer requests this week? List them for future reference so that you can see how God answers.

Search the Scriptures

Look for references for each of the following:

• Promises that God made and to whom He made them. Do they apply to you?
• References that either refer to or infer something about future events.
• What does this passage teach about Jesus?
• Commandments that God made and to whom He made them. Do they apply to you?

Putting the Word into Action

Many of David's friends stood by him even when he was exiled. Perhaps you have a friend in need. Ask the Lord for specific guidance so that you will know how to help your friend. Then follow the Lord's leading.

I Samuel 29:1-30:8  (read Thursday, October 17, 2013)

Even though Achish trusted David enough to take him and his men into battle against Saul's armies the princes of the Philistines did not trust David's allegiance. They expected David to turn against them and fight Israel. They were probably right.

David seems to have had some influence upon Achish's spiritual beliefs. Achish swears of David's faithfulness to him by the name of the LORD. (Are there any further dealings between Achish and David after David becomes king of Israel?)

Does God issue any commands in this passage?

• He commanded David to pursue the Amalekites, the warriors that had taken captive the families of David and his men.

Does God  make any promises?

• God promised David that he would overtake the Amalekites and would recover everybody and everything.

Does this passage teach anything about Jesus?

• David is the type of Christ. His own people turned against him but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God. (30:6)

Does this passage teach anything about yet-future events?

• The people of God will one day reclaim all that evil has held captive.

I Samuel chapter 28  (read Wednesday, October 16, 2013)

Saul makes the woman with a familiar spirit a promies that she would not be punished for the deed of performing her craft. He even swears an oath by the name of God! He had no right to do that! Perhaps Saul himself wouldn't punish her but the LORD most certainly would punish her for her willful demonic activity. After all, it wasn't Saul who originally demanded death for those seeking information from spirits. That would be the LORD who commanded the people not to allow sorcery within their borders.
