Journal Through the Bible: Week 27 Friday

source
Deuteronomy chapter 9

In this chapter Moses remembers many of the times that the people rebelled. He reminded them not to boast when things inevitably turn out well for them.

Does God issue any commands?

  • The people were to remember how they had provoked God in the wilderness and at Mount Horeb and avoid provoking Him further.

Does God make any promises?

  • God would drive out the children of Anak for the Israelites but not because the Israelites were righteous but because the children of Anak were wicked and God was fulfilling His promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Does this chapter teach anything about Jesus?

  • Like Moses, Jesus spent 40 days fasting in the wilderness in preparation for the task that God had for them to fulfill. (Moses was remembering his 40 days on Mount Sinai and recounting it to the people.)
  • Moses recounted how he interceded for the people. Jesus is our intercessor.

Does this chapter teach anything about yet-future events?

  • None that I saw.

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
