Does God make any promises in this chapter?
- It is implied that if Aaron and his sons followed the commanded consecration ritual they would be acceptable for service.
Are there any references to Jesus?
- Jesus did not require an atonement to be made on His behalf before He could serve as high priest. He was already acceptable for service because He knew no sin. (Hebrews 7:22-28)
Are there any references to future events?
- Hebrews 8:5-6 state that these sacrifices, and particularly as concerning the priests, were a shadow of heavenly things.
Does God issue any commands?
- God commanded Aaron and his sons to be consecrated for service. First they were washed with water. Then they were clothed in the special garments that signified their offices. This was followed by the anointing with oil and the sprinkling of the oil upon the altar and other service vessels seven times. Then the bullock for the sin offering and the ram for the burnt offering that were given to signify the atonement necessary for the sins of Aaron and his sins. Then the ram of consecration was slain and its blood placed upon the ear, big toe, and thumb of the right side. The unleavened bread, the cake, and an oiled wafer was waved before being burnt on the altar. Aaron and his sons boiled some of the meat at the door of the tabernacle and ate it before burning the remainder. They were then commanded to stay within the tabernacle for 7 days.
