TAKE TIME Reading Assignment: May 6-11, 2013

Introduction: We will continue to read of the instructions that God gave the priests for the holy handling of the sacrifices. Following proper procedure was important because the shedding of the animals' blood was a picture of the shedding of their Messiah's blood for the remission of sins. We will also read this week of the instructions that God gave the people for holy living. They were to be set apart from improper procedures in order to show that they were the people of God. Although we may not understand the reasons behind all of these rules they are actually very practical and healthy. Following strict hygiene and dietary laws was just a couple of the ways that God helped them avoid the diseases of the Egyptians as He promised them in Exodus 15:26. God designed the body and He understood what was necessary to keep it healthy.

And there came a fire out from before the LORD, and consumed upon the altar the burnt offering and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their faces. Leviticus 9:24

Prayer Journal (ACTS)
  • Adoration - This week take time each day to praise God for being unchangeable.
  • Confession - The Lord is the same yesterday, today, and forever. We, however, change constantly and try to make excuses when we do. Ask the Lord to show you ways that you sin because you have found ways to justify your actions then confess them.
  • Thanksgiving - Thank God that He forgives sins! And thank Him that we do not need to witness animal sacrifices in order to be taught about atonement.
  • Supplication - What are your prayer requests this week? List them for future reference so that you can see how God answers.

Search the Scriptures

Look for references for each of the following:
  • Promises that God made and to whom He made them. Do they apply to you?
  • References that either refer to or infer something about future events.
  • What does this passage teach about Jesus?
  • Commandments that God made and to whom He made them. Do they apply to you?

Putting the Word into Action

God was not being arbitrary when He gave instructions to the Hebrew people concerning the foods they could eat, proper hygiene and sanitation, and the cleanliness of their houses and the materials used for building them. These were actually means of protecting them from disease. Perhaps this would be a good week to reevaluate your own health practices and make some changes. Are you eating healthy foods and getting proper exercise? Is your first aid kit properly stocked with medicines that are not out of date? Does your own home have mold, mildew, or other unhealthy growth that can aggravate respiratory conditions? Take time to check and make any necessary changes.
