TAKE TIME: Reading Assignment for May 13-18, 2013

Introduction: We will read more instructions this week that God gave to Moses, Aaron, and the Levitical priesthood for the maintenance of the tabernacle and of the physical body. God instituted laws for marriage designed to keep a breakdown of the genetic code from happening through intermarriage and He gave them more instructions on proper health and hygiene. He also gave them very definite commands about idol worship!

Reading Assignment:
  • Monday - Leviticus chapter 15
  • Tuesday - Leviticus 16:1-17:9
  • Wednesday - Leviticus 17:10-18:30
  • Thursday - Leviticus chapter 19
  • Friday - Leviticus 20:1-21:15
  • Saturday - Leviticus 21:16-22:33

Memory Verse

For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. Leviticus 17:11

Prayer Journal (ACTS)
  • Adoration - This week take time each day to praise God for being omniscient (all knowing).
  • Confession - We just think we know it all, but God truly does! Remember circumstances when you were sure that you knew better than God and did something your own way because of it. Then confess it and ask for His forgiveness.
  • Thanksgiving - Thank God that He allows us to get back on the right path. He promised that His word would give us instruction in righteousness.
  • Supplication - What are your prayer requests this week? List them for future reference so that you can see how God answers.

Search the Scriptures

Look for references for each of the following:
  • Promises that God made and to whom He made them. Do they apply to you?
  • References that either refer to or infer something about future events.
  • What does this passage teach about Jesus?
  • Commandments that God made and to whom He made them. Do they apply to you?

Putting the Word into Action

Sometimes a moment can change a life forever. If it is a good moment, like accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as personal savior, there is eternal cause for rejoicing. But sometimes a bad moment, like a willful act of disobedience, can almost ruin lives. Actions have consequences and some have permanent repercussions.

In our reading this week we see that there were some qualifications for serving in the priesthood besides just being descended from Aaron. In the New Testament there are qualifications for pastors and deacons. The Levitical priesthood is no longer serving in God's tabernacle or temple but God is still calling pastors and deacons into service to His churches. Not everyone will be chosen by God to be a pastor, deacon, or the wife of a pastor or a deacon, but everyone should live so that if God calls them they will meet the qualifications. If you are a young person set your sights on high standards of morality and service. Make wise choices NOW and determine to continue to make them! And if you are an older person continue to maintain your worthy testimony because you are never too old to be called into God's service!
