TAKE TIME Reading Assignment: June 10-15, 2013

Introduction: After the rebellion of the people that resulted in God's decree that the adults not be allowed into  Canaan, the people began their years of wilderness wanderings. This week we will read about more instructions, more rebellion and more death. We will also read how God reaffirmed His call of the sons of Aaron to the Levitical priesthood.

Reading Assignment:
  • Monday - Numbers chapter 15
  • Tuesday - Numbers chapter 16
  • Wednesday - Numbers 17:1-18:32
  • Thursday - Numbers chapter 19
  • Friday - Numbers chapter 20
  • Saturday - Numbers chapter 21

Memory Verse

And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived. Numbers 21:9

Prayer Journal (ACTS)
  • Adoration - This week take time each day to praise God for His victory over sin and death.
  • Confession - The Israelites continued to complain about the circumstances in which God put them. We do this too, and it needs to be confessed.
  • Thanksgiving - Thank God that He is our Leader to the land He has promised us.
  • Supplication - What are your prayer requests this week? List them for future reference so that you can see how God answers.

Search the Scriptures

Look for references for each of the following:
  • Promises that God made and to whom He made them. Do they apply to you?
  • References that either refer to or infer something about future events.
  • What does this passage teach about Jesus?
  • Commandments that God made and to whom He made them. Do they apply to you?

Putting the Word into Action

Waiting is hard! The people of Israel were passing the time in the wilderness while they waited for the years (and people) to pass. There are always individuals who are going through times that seem futile. Sometimes these are the elderly people who feel they are no longer useful. Sometimes they are people who are grieving over a loss who feel that life will never be good again. If this is you, find someone who can help you find something productive to do with your time. If this is not you, but you know someone whose life seems to be in a holding pattern, spend time with them and listen to their struggles. Help them find ways to be productive once more. If you do not know how to help others with these kinds of issues find service organizations that help others (Meals on Wheels, organizations that give rides to the elderly, etc.) and volunteer your services. Show God's love to those who are in the wilderness.
