Journal Through the Bible: Week 35 Friday

source
Judges 14:1-15:20

The life of Samson continues with his battles with and domination over the Philistines.

Does God issue any commands in this passage?

  • God did not speak in this passage.

Does God make any promises?

  • God did not speak in this passage but He did provide deliverance for the Israelites through Samson; He also provided water to Samson through the jawbone of the ass.

Does this passage teach anything about Jesus?

  • Samson is far from a perfect type of Christ, but his source of strength came from the same Holy Spirit that strengthened Jesus in His earthly ministry.

Does this passage teach anything about yet-future events?

  • So far in the narrative of the life of Samson his battles have been won almost effortlessly. Such will be the future battles of Jesus when He comes to rule the world with a rod of iron. Even the final battle is quickly won with His double-edged sword (which is probably a reference to spoken words; He spoke and the worlds came into existence and He will speak and the worlds that are will cease to exist prior to the words He speaks to create the New Heavens and the New Earth).

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
