As much as possible, do not treat pets like children or children like pets.
Grandchildren are the obvious exception to this rule.
Okay, I can see where it might apply to nieces and nephews, too. :)
So true - but try telling that to those who don't have children and pets have taken their place...... They don't even see what they're doing and will not thank you for pointing it out. I've seen marriages go kaputt because the wife preferred the dog over her spouse - and knowing the spouse, it was not surprising! No amount of persuasion from my end was helpful or changed anything. So sad!
