Journal Through the Bible: Week 30 Thursday

source
Deuteronomy 32:1-47

This passage records the song that Moses wrote and taught the people at God's command (verses 1-43). Scripture really is eternal: This song will be sung in Heaven!
Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask they father and he will shew thee; thy elders, and they will tell thee.  Deut. 32:7

Does God issue any commands?

  • This song was written at the command of God (see yesterday's passage - 31:19)

Does God make any promises?

  • Jacob (the Children of Israel) are the LORD's inheritance. He set them apart for Himself. Israel is the apple of His eye. (verse 10)
  • God would set them aside in jealousy over their disobedience, but only for a time. (verses 19-26)
  • God promised to punish the wicked nations that did evilly. He would avenge the blood of His people. (verses 36-42)

Does this passage teach anything about Jesus?

  • Jesus is the Rock whose work is perfect, whose ways are judgment, who is Truth who is sinless, just and right. (verse 4)
  • Jesus is the Rock of Salvation (verse 15) that Israel rejected.
  • Jesus is the Rock that birthed them as a nation (verse 18).
  • Jesus is the Rock that allowed them to be punished for disobedience by other nations. (verses 30-31)

Does this passage teach anything about yet-future events?

  • The song of Moses is sung in Heaven in the future by 7 angels. (See Revelation 15:1-4.) It is a testimony of the greatness and grace of God through His Son, Jesus Christ the Rock.
  • (32:8) God divided the earth by tribes of people, set their boundaries, and gave them their inheritance. He will do the same on the New Earth. (Revelations speaks of nations coming to the New Jerusalem.)
  • The Israelites had no idea of what their future destiny would be. (Verses 28-29) But their "latter end" is revealed to us in the book of Revelation and it is glorious!

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
