TAKE TIME: Reading Assignment August 5-10

Introduction: This week we begin reading the book of Joshua which is named after the man who assumed the leadership position over the Children of Israel following the death of Moses. The early chapters cover the Jordan River crossing and the conquests that followed.

Reading Assignment:
  • Monday - Joshua 1:1-2:24
  • Tuesday - Joshua 3:1-4:24
  • Wednesday - Joshua 5:1-6:27
  • Thursday - Joshua chapter 7
  • Friday - Joshua chapter 8
  • Saturday - Joshua chapter 9

Memory Verse

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Joshua 1:8

Prayer Journal (ACTS)
  • Adoration - This week take time each day to praise God for being our Supreme Commander.
  • Confession - Ask God to reveal hidden sin in your life and then confess it.
  • Thanksgiving - Thank God for His leadership.
  • Supplication - What are your prayer requests this week? List them for future reference so that you can see how God answers.

Search the Scriptures

Look for references for each of the following:
  • Promises that God made and to whom He made them. Do they apply to you?
  • References that either refer to or infer something about future events.
  • What does this passage teach about Jesus?
  • Commandments that God made and to whom He made them. Do they apply to you?

Putting the Word into Action

Many Christians trusted Christ as children or young adults because they were taught about Him while they were growing up. (Praise God if that is your story!) But to others like Rahab of Jericho the God of scripture was not part of her upbringing. Find a way this week to get the gospel to someone of another culture: someone who did not grow up in an area that has a Bible in every home. Some ideas are helping Bible translation or printing societies, or sending a gift of money to a missionary in a foreign country, or finding individuals of other cultures in your own area that need to hear the gospel, or sending money to organizations that take the gospel as well as mercy supplies to other countries (research these organizations carefully to determine what percentage of each dollar is actually used for aid and gospel ministry).
