Trouble! One person and his family stole from God and took cursed items and 36 warriors died as a result. Then they died.
Does God issue any commands in this chapter?
- (7:10-12) After the disgraceful defeat of Israel at Ai God told Joshua to get up off his face and to stop his prayer. The implication is that Joshua should have realized that the reason God did not fight for Israel was because the covenant had been broken during the siege of Jericho. God told Joshua that the sins were taking something accursed, stealing from God, and lying.
- (7:14) The people were commanded to sanctify themselves and stand in the morning before the LORD by tribes, families, and households, and then by individuals.
Does God make any promises?
- (7:12) God promised to NOT be with them anymore if they did not find and destroy the accursed from among them.
Does this chapter teach anything about Jesus?
- Not that I identified.
Does this chapter teach anything about yet-future events?
- (7:12-13) God does not dwell among the accursed whether it be objects or people. It is obvious that there will be nothing and nobody that is accursed dwelling among Emanuel (God with us).

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
