Introduction: Last week we read about the trials and struggles of Israel and his family as a result of their own sinful actions and that of others. This week we will read how those struggles compound and for the same reasons. Through it all, the compassion of Israel's God preserves them through both physical and spiritual problems.

There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? Genesis 39:9
Prayer Journal (ACTS)
- Adoration - This week take time each day to praise God for being compassionate! Jacob and his family did not deserve such compassion. No one does, including you!
- Confession - God already knows about each sin but confess any as they come to your mind and ask Him to help you not sin that way again.
- Thanksgiving - Thank God for the forgiveness of sins!
- Supplication - What are your prayer requests this week? List them for future reference so that you can see how God answers.
Search the Scriptures
Look for references for each of the following:
- Promises that God made and to whom He made them. Do they apply to you?
- References that either refer to or infer something about future events.
- What does this passage teach about Jesus?
- Commandments that God made and to whom He made them. Do they apply to you?
Putting the Word into Action
Joseph was 17 years old when his brothers sold him as a slave and he was 30 years old when he became the prime minister of Egypt. During those 13 years of slavery God was preparing Joseph to do a great work. Are you engaged in some menial task that appears to be wasteful drudgery? Try to find a way to use your work to help others, much like Joseph did for Pharoah's baker and butler, and see if there is a way that God can use your work to help others through your abilities, help you to appreciate the work God has given you to do, and glorify God in the process!
