Does God make any promises in this chapter/
God does not speak in this chapter.
Are there any references to Jesus?
Joseph is a type of Christ:
- He is the beloved son
- He is despised and afflicted
- He willingly obeys his father's command to go
- His destiny was to rule and reign
- He was sold for 20 pieces of silver
Are there any references to yet-future events?
Not directly, but as a type of Christ Joseph portrays Jesus as the ruler at the right hand of the Father which is now taking place but will be revealed more fully to all in the future. (This aspect of Joseph's life, that of being Pharoah's right hand man, will be read later this week. I only mentioned it today in the context of Joseph's dreams about his own future.)
Does God issue any commands?
God does not speak.

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
